Safe School Travel Committee

The College’s Safe school travel (SafeST) committee maintains a continual process of investigation and monitoring safe school travel; and assists in organising improvement to road safety around the college, and safe travel to school. The SafeST committee has a desire to take an active role in helping to improve the road safety for all users (pedestrians of paramount). Peace Lutheran College Community: Students, Staff, Parents/ carers, Parents and Friends Association members take an active lead role and ownership of road safety issues around our school.

  Role of SafeST Committee:
  • Identify & analyse road safety issues (utilising SafeST checklist- Queensland Transport School Environment Safety Guidelines, Release Version 1.01, January 2005).
  • Collect and collate data.
  • Manage expectations of community groups.
  • Consider possible solutions that maximise benefits (using local knowledge & SafeST application matrix- Queensland Transport School Environment Safety Guidelines, Release Version 1.01, January 2005).
  • Consider possible solutions that are low cost (having recognised funding constraints) or that have a high cost benefit ratio.
  • Consult with school, community, local government, Dept Main Roads, Qld Transport, and other relevant authorities over actions to be taken.
  • Recommend safety programs to be implemented at the school, and by the school community.
  • Make funding submissions to local governments and other authorities.
  • Assist in the introduction, monitoring and evaluation of road safety programs.
