A Message from Head of Junior School - Mrs Sarah Rowan
At Peace Lutheran College we believe in the development of the whole child, from the academics right through to the social, emotional and spiritual development. We focus a student's learning journey on developing their knowledge, skills and attitudes, helping them become active participants and contributors to the global world environment we live in.
Our curriculum is engaging and relevant with ongoing assessment and reporting to ensure each child recognises and works towards reaching their full potential. In English, Maths, Science and History, we follow the Australian Curriculum Guidelines. We will continue to implement other subjects as they are approved by ACARA. Students in the Junior School have specialist lessons in Japanese, Music, and Health & Physical Education. As part of a P-12 College, our Junior students are able to be exposed to specialist areas such as Science Labs, Manual Arts and Home Economics. As an expression of our Christian faith and belief, students participate in class devotions, Chapel and worship services and learn Christian Studies, which is based on the Lutheran Education Australia's Christian Studies Curriculum Framework. They also have many opportunities to engage in different sporting, cultural and special interest activities throughout the year.
A central part to being a Christian College is the core belief of respecting individual differences. To further develop this we use a social emotional program called, "Program Achieve - You Can Do It". This program forms a common language within our community and teaches children a number of different skills they need to be happy (to like themselves, have friends, work hard, help others, make school and home a safe and clean place to live and learn) and successful (doing the best they can do). These five foundation skills are: Confidence; Persistence; Organisation; Getting Along; and Emotional Resilience.
The role parents play in education is vital and we endeavour to keep communication open and honest.
Together, staff, parents and students at PLC Junior School are working, exploring, investigating and learning! Making it a great place to be!
