Every year level in the Middle School at PLC has designated 2 periods a week for Sport specific activities.
Year 6/7 students participate together in a program catered for their age groups and abilities with a variety of mixed gender team sports including Oz Tag, AFL, Newcomb, Softball, Cricket & Futsal. Inter-school competition takes on certain days with nearby schools as well on designated Gala Days with each school in the Barron River District. Individual activities such as Tennis and Zumba are also included throughout the year as well as training for Cross Country and Track & Field events. Swim & Survive lessons are a major focus during Term 4 with the nearby Marlin Coast Aquatic Centre being utilised each week.
Sport for Year 8/9 students is heavliy focussed on preparing, training and competing in the Cairns Junior Secondary School Inter-School Sport competition. During Term 1, students can choose their sport for the year from Boys AFL, Boys/Girls Soccer, Girls Netball, Boys/Girls Touch Football and Boys/Girls Basketball. Students then train with their teammates and staff coaches during Term 1 and 2 in preparation for the weekly Inter-School competition during Term 3 and 4. PLC has maintained a high standard in JSS sport in recent years with our Touch Football, Netball and Basketball teams in particular playing in semi-finals and grand finals.
Maximum participation from Middle School students is encouraged at all times during Sport at PLC and when this goal is achieved, more often than not, success follows.
