Property & Facilities Manager

Full-time, permanent position. 5 weeks annual leave.

Commencing Monday 15 November, 2021 (or earlier by agreement)

An opportunity exists for a proactive Property & Facilities Manager to provide leadership to staff involved in the management and operation of the College's facilities, including capital and minor works, facilities and grounds, contract services, maintenance and overseeing the transport department.

Located in Kamerunga, a suburb of Cairns in Tropical North Queensland, Peace Lutheran College is a Kindy to Year 12 Christian, co-educational day and boarding school nestled in the picturesque hills between Redlynch and Lake Placid on the Barron River, only 15 minutes west of the Cairns CBD.

The completion of key building projects, including the Peace Performing Arts Centre, Industrial Technology & Design building and Café Garna, has seen the College facilities grow in strength and add an exciting and modern dimension to the College’s property portfolio.

Leading a small team and reporting to the Business Manager, the Property and Facilities Manager will go above and beyond to ensure the optimal function, presentation and safety of the School’s buildings and grounds. The Property and Facilities Manager will also oversee the operation of the College bus service.

Candidates will be required to meet the following selection criteria:

  • Proven experience in the management and planning of building and grounds maintenance.
  • Responsible for quality, efficient and effective output by Maintenance Staff contractors and transport operation.
  • Work closely with the Business Manager in the planning, costing and development of capital works.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant Australian standards and codes.
  • Tasks performed in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, including but not limited to, the identification of operational risks, the development of safe working procedures, the training of staff in those procedures and the monitoring of staff performance in this regard.
  • Overview of all maintenance and trades work activities for repairs and maintenance to confirm compliance with all statutory and government authority acts, regulations and requirements
  • Establish and maintain preferred contractor arrangements and effectively manage approved contracts, including cleaning, waste removal, mechanical and security.
  • Has the ability to collaborate or work autonomously
  • Strong ICT, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong focus on customer service combined with a well-developed sense of responsibility and initiative.
  • High level interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to establish strong links with key stakeholders.
  • Is able to manage time effectively, prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and the needs of stakeholders
  • Is committed to developing a culture of best practice and continuous improvement
  • Is willing to contribute to work practices that enhance wellbeing
  • A trade qualification, tertiary qualifications in project management (desirable)
  • Current HR driver’s licence.

Head of Girls Boarding

The College is looking for a passionate and enthusiastic Head of Girls Boarding to join the Boarding leadership team. This is a unique opportunity for someone looking for a dynamic teaching and mentoring role in a culturally diverse environment. The successful applicant will be passionate about working with and supporting young people in their educational journey away from home.

The Head of Girls Boarding and Head of Boys Boarding are responsible for all College boarding matters and for fostering strategic and professional relationships with staff, students, families and community stakeholders. The Head of Girls Boarding and Head of Boys Boarding roles are to develop, within the Boarding community, a spirit and character that is friendly and supportive, enabling the potential of each student as an individual.

Leading the Girls Boarding staff, the Heads of Girls Boarding will create a sense of belonging for all resident students in accordance with the College Mission, nurturing and supporting their academic and pastoral experience at the College.

In addition, the Head of Girls Boarding will teach within the College secondary school which will also include pastoral and extracurricular activities. The teaching component of this role will be 0.5 FTE.

Early Childhood Teacher - Peace Lutheran Kindergarten

Peace Lutheran Kindergarten, located on the grounds of the Lutheran College in a picturesque location in the foothills of the MacAlister Range in Cairns is seeking a part-time Early Childhood Teacher to join our friendly team.

The Role

Peace Kindy operates 48 weeks of the year and closes for four weeks over the Christmas period. We are seeking a qualified Early Childhood Teacher to work 35 hours per week Monday to Friday who can effectively deliver and evaluate early learning programs. The position requires someone who is passionate and motivated about making a positive difference in the lives of children and families.

The successful applicant will have:

• Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (ACECQA Approved)

• Current Blue Card or Teacher's Exemption Card
