A belated welcome to Term 3 and our NEW Boarding Newsletter.
The purpose of this style of newsletter is that hopefully it becomes a one stop shop for everything to do with Boarding here at Peace Lutheran College.
It has been a welcome return for all of us as our numbers have swelled from a lowly 12 late last term to almost 60, which is pretty much the number of boarding students we had prior to COVID taking over our lives.

Welcome to our first Boarding Newsletter. What a year we have all had so far!
It has been lovely, this term, to welcome back the majority of our boarders. The boarding houses were very quiet for some time, so it is nice to have the normal buzz back. Only a few are still unable to return, but we look forward to seeing them again in the not too distant future. Please be assured that you are still very much in our thoughts and prayers.
I am excited about this additional opportunity to share with you all that is happening in boarding at Peace.

As many of you are aware, Lara Asinari resigned from her role as House Parent of Frieden House at the end of last term.
We are pleased to announce that Adrian Bonser, a current teacher here at Peace Lutheran College, has accepted the Head of Frieden House position.
For us, this is a structural and organisational change away from the current House Parent model. Adrian will still continue to teach 60% of the time in the school with 40% of his role being dedicated to looking after the boys in Frieden House.
Adrian has been, and is currently, working once a week with Frieden House and knows the boys well. He has a nursing and rugby league background which we believe will assist him within the role. Due to Adrian's current teaching commitments he will not officially take over the role until at least Term 4, but between Adrian and myself, we will begin the transition.
We welcome Adrian to the team and look forward to seeing him develop the role and the relationships with both the boys and their families.
The Quick Links options that appear in the side bar of this newsletter will be periodically added to so you have a quick go-to area to access things such as menu items, activities, calendar events, etc.
We have a number of students involved in Community Sport and as the COVID restrictions have eased here in Cairns, the varying sports have been able to resume.
We have a number of our girls playing a combination of AFL and basketball, with the boys also enjoying regular Wednesday night basketball games. The boys are super excited this week because their rugby league games restart on Saturday. As fixtures come to hand we will try and add them to the QUICK LINKS.
We would like to extend a big thank you to the parents who assist in getting our boarders to and from training and games as it really does help us out here at the College. One of our biggest challenges is balancing transport requirements and if parents can assist us we are most grateful.
As the students return to us this year we will be conducting a Health Check up with them during the first week or two.
The idea of the check ups is to touch base with the students regarding any health or wellbeing concerns that they may have. From these check ups we hope to identify if the students need any extra follow up with doctors or support.
